A recent post by CoinGecko on X revealed that nearly half of the world’s leading fashion brands, such as Adidas, Nike, and Puma, have launched NFT collections. This announcement coincided with the OpenSea CEO’s statement in a Bloomberg interview about the platform’s commitment to creating innovative use cases for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the face of decreasing trading volumes.
According to a study, nine brands have released a single NFT collection, while six have introduced two collections each. Most fashion brands entered the NFT space in 2021 or 2022, with exceptions like Cartier, The North Face, and Ralph Lauren launching their collections in 2023 during a challenging period for NFTs.
Adidas stands out as a prominent NFT brand in the traditional apparel sector, with 12 NFT collections and a dedicated web3 team known as the Three Stripes Studio. Their first fashion NFT collection, “Into the Metaverse,” was unveiled in late 2021.
Nike is also making waves in the fashion NFT realm, having released nine collections to date. The brand made headlines in late 2021 by acquiring web3 studio RTFKT, known for its innovative designs and Clone X profile picture NFTs.
Sportswear brands like Puma are leading the charge in the traditional apparel industry’s adoption of fashion NFTs, securing a top-three spot in the fashion NFT rankings.
