The DFINITY Foundation, renowned for its contributions to the Internet Computer blockchain, made a significant announcement on May 22nd regarding the launch of the EVM RPC and a new stablecoin called ckUSDC. These advancements are designed to enhance interoperability among various blockchains and expand the utility of decentralized finance (DeFi) within the ecosystem.
Lomesh Dutta, the VP of Growth at DFINITY, emphasized the importance of reaching the Tritium milestone with the EVM RPC. This achievement allows smart contracts on the Internet Computer to interact with any blockchain that supports the Ethereum JSON-RPC protocol. JSON-RPC, a coding protocol that utilizes JSON for encoding messages, facilitates standardized communication between different operating systems.
The introduction of DFINITY’s EVM RPC streamlines the development of multi-chain decentralized applications (dApps) by enabling direct interactions with blockchains like Optimism, Arbitrum, and Base. Developers have the flexibility to incorporate additional EVMs as needed to enhance their projects.
In an effort to enhance blockchain interoperability and liquidity, DFINITY launched these products with the goal of connecting diverse communities. Early feedback from adopters such as IC Lighthouse and Helix Markets has underscored the potential of these innovations to simplify operations and integration across various networks.
Additionally, DFINITY unveiled ckUSDC, a stablecoin pegged directly to USDC and integrated into the Internet Computer network. Functioning as a “twin token,” ckUSDC offers the typical benefits of a stablecoin, serving as a medium of exchange and a store of value. It enables faster transactions and reduced costs inherent to the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem. Trading pairs like ckBTC/ckUSDC, ckETH/ckUSDC, and ICP/ckUSDC facilitate secure transactions across different chains.
DFINITY’s objective is to promote the adoption of ckUSDC among developers and users by inviting community proposals for additional ERC20 twins on the Internet Computer network. This initiative is part of DFINITY’s broader mission to drive innovation and collaboration within the blockchain space.
