During his keynote at Token2024 in Dubai, blockchain expert Gavin Wood shared details about a groundbreaking protocol known as JAM Chain, which is based on Ethereum and Polkadot principles.
Wood, a prominent figure in the blockchain space with a wealth of experience spanning over a decade, has been instrumental in the creation of several decentralized networks, including Ethereum (ETH), Polkadot (DOT), and Kusama (KSM).
Notably, Wood is recognized as the original author of Ethereum’s Yellow Paper, the official documentation for the second-largest cryptocurrency network in the world, following Bitcoin (BTC).
In his presentation at the Token2024 blockchain conference, Wood emphasized that the Polkadot JAM Chain should be viewed primarily as a protocol rather than just software. He highlighted that JAM is designed to offer improved speed and decentralization in both its architecture and development processes.
Wood detailed that Polkadot’s JAM Chain will provide smart contract capabilities through a decentralized hybrid system. While drawing parallels to Ethereum’s EVM, he also introduced a new PMB paradigm inspired by Polkadot’s foundational framework.
Wood encouraged all interested parties to delve into JAM’s Gray Paper to gain a deeper understanding of the protocol’s technical specifications. Additionally, he mentioned the JAM prize initiative, supported by the Web3 Foundation, which aims to incentivize engagement with the protocol through various development tiers.
Developers working on JAM implementations will have access to a comprehensive debugging and optimization tool called the JAM toaster, provided by the initiative. Wood disclosed that the Polkadot Fellowship, responsible for overseeing Polkadot upgrades, will finalize the necessary tooling and software requirements for running the JAM Chain once a proposal is released in the near future.
