Huawei Cloud, the cloud infrastructure division of the Chinese tech giant Huawei, has announced the establishment of the metaverse and web3 alliance, which will bring together a consortium of companies including Morpheus Labs, DeepBrain Chain, Blockchain Solutions, and Polygon.
The partnership was revealed during Huawei Cloud’s Asia-Pacific (APAC) Partner Leadership Summit in Bali, Indonesia, held from February 23 to 24. Over 100 partners and key clients from the APAC region, such as China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, participated in the exclusive event.
The summit was designed to offer customers a diverse and expert web3 infrastructure and solutions, while also fostering collaboration among partners in related sectors. Huawei emphasized that the metaverse and web3 alliance is crucial to their future plans for the internet’s evolution.
This alliance will provide members with access to Huawei’s large user base for cloud services, offering them valuable exposure and opportunities to establish new business relationships. Unlike other collaborations between crypto projects and cloud service providers, Huawei’s focus will be on Metaverse and Web3 themes.
The goal of the alliance is to create a comprehensive ecosystem in these two interconnected fields, with partners teaming up to deliver users with a range of professional infrastructure and solutions.
However, after the announcement, some crypto experts raised concerns about Huawei’s understanding of the crypto sector. Chinese reporter Colin Wu suggested that Huawei Cloud’s choice of partners for the alliance demonstrated a lack of comprehension of the crypto industry, with some members having a questionable reputation.
Tencent Cloud, another major player in the tech industry, has also revealed its own web3 initiative, demonstrating the increasing interest in metaverse and web3 technology. The company introduced its Metaverse-in-a-Box offering at the Web3 Build Day event in Singapore, along with a roadmap for blockchain API services to support Web3 developers.
Tencent Cloud has partnered with Ankr to create a decentralized network of Remote Procedure Call (RPC) nodes, aiming to empower Web3 developers to enhance their projects, including Web3 games and social apps.
