Krafton, a well-known South Korean game developer famous for creating the popular game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), is reportedly working on a new video game similar to Roblox. According to The Korea Economic Daily (KED), the game, called Overdare (formerly known as Project Migaloo), is being developed in collaboration with Naver Z, a metaverse unit of Naver Corp, a major South Korean internet company.
Overdare is described as a mobile-based user-generated content platform that will compete with games like The Sandbox and Roblox. The game will utilize Unreal Engine 5 and generative artificial intelligence to enhance the gaming experience, although specific details about the AI technology have not been revealed. Players will have the ability to customize their digital avatars and interact with friends through the game.
Reports suggest that Overdare will also incorporate blockchain technology, specifically the Settlus blockchain network, to create a “create-to-earn” in-game economy that supports non-fungible tokens (NFTs). While Krafton and Naver Z have not officially confirmed these details, it is anticipated that more information about the game will be revealed in December 2023.
In a separate development, Krafton had previously partnered with Solana to release products on the network. Despite initial plans, the South Korean developer ultimately decided not to use Solana for their upcoming project. Solana Labs was expected to provide assistance with game development and marketing as part of the collaboration.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new venture from Krafton and Naver Z as they continue to innovate in the gaming industry.
