An image of a dog featured in the logo of the popular Dogwifhat meme coin is available for purchase as an NFT for $25,000.
The owner of the dog, who has become the face of the Dogwifhat (WIF) meme coin, has decided to auction off a well-known photo of the canine as a non-fungible token (NFT) item. Originally named Chi-Chi, the dog’s moniker was later changed to Achi. The iconic photograph, which eventually became the emblem of the Dogwifhat meme coin, was reportedly taken two months after the dog’s birth on November 17, 2018.
The auction has been ongoing for a few days on the Foundation website, but it wasn’t until March 15 that it caught the attention of the crypto community as bids soared to impressive amounts. Enthusiasts are now willing to shell out several Ethereum (ETH) for an image of a dog sporting a pink hat.
As of the latest update, the highest bid stands at 6,942 ETH, equivalent to over $25,600 based on current exchange rates. Earlier this month, the Dogwifhat project community successfully raised over $703,000 to showcase the dog symbol of the WIF meme coin on the screen of the MSG Sphere entertainment complex in Las Vegas.
According to the Wif-sphere platform, the fundraiser managed to gather more than $300,000 within the initial 24 hours and has now surpassed the $700,000 mark. The buzz surrounding WIF has been ongoing for months, fueled by a rapid surge in price and market capitalization. Launched towards the end of last year, WIF now ranks as the fourth-largest meme coin in terms of market capitalization. The frenzy surrounding Dogwifhat is occasionally stoked by tales of traders who have made significant profits by investing nominal sums in the token.
