Parallel, a futuristic trading card game incorporating non-fungible tokens (NFTs), is set to make its debut on the Epic Games Store after securing a recent $35 million in funding.
The creators of Parallel made the announcement on their X account on April 3, revealing that the NFT card game will soon be available for download on the Epic Games Store (EGS) marketplace. While no specific release date was provided, players were encouraged to wishlist the game in anticipation of its arrival.
This development comes on the heels of Parallel’s successful funding round, which saw $35 million invested by various backers including Distributed Global, The Operating Group, VanEck, Solana Ventures, Base Ecosystem Fund, and Amber. In total, the sci-fi NFT card game, focused on a strategic battle for control of Earth, has raised $85 million from investors like Paradigm and others.
Since its launch in 2021, Parallel has been in open beta, allowing players to collect, trade, and interact with unique in-game assets in the form of NFTs. The game’s storyline follows humanity’s attempt to escape into space amidst a global energy crisis.
For Epic Games, the addition of Parallel adds to its growing collection of crypto-related games on the platform. Earlier this year, a blockchain-based game inspired by Call of Duty, named Shrapnel, entered early access on EGS.
In December 2023, Epic Games Store clarified its position on blockchain-based games, affirming that they would not be prohibited on the platform despite being previously flagged as “Adults Only” by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
