Former Spain FA chief Rubiales dives into NFT market following allegations of sexual assault

Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales, who stepped down amidst allegations of sexual assault, has unveiled his own collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in a move to champion ‘true equality.’
In a recent social media post on Jan. 16, Rubiales shared a screenshot of a letter from a South Korean company called The Moon Labs, praising his contributions to Spanish and global football despite a “small mistake in the women’s World Cup.” This led to the creation of the Rubiales NFT collection, now available on the digital collectibles marketplace OpenSea.
The collection features 170 unique items, with the creator receiving a 10% royalty. Described as a blend of Rubiales’ sporting achievements and personal journey from childhood, the NFTs aim to tell his story in a creative and engaging way.
Rubiales resigned from his position in September 2023 following a scandal involving an inappropriate kiss he gave to Spain player Jenni Hermoso during the Women’s World Cup final. FIFA subsequently imposed a three-year ban on Rubiales from all football activities in October 2023.
