A full collection of 10 Autoglyphs was recently sold for 5,000 ETH, equivalent to approximately $14.6 million today, making it the highest NFT sale in the last two years and the fifth-largest transaction on-chain.
The transaction took place on Fountain.xyz, a platform specializing in rare digital art sales. While the buyer chose to remain anonymous, a spokesperson revealed that they have a background in collecting traditional analog art and consider Autoglyphs to be just as valuable as any other art piece.
Autoglyphs were first introduced in 2019 by Larva Labs, the creators of the famous CryptoPunks, and are known as the pinnacle of generative art on the blockchain. Unlike many NFTs that rely on off-chain storage, every aspect of an Autoglyph, including its creation algorithm and final visual appearance, is stored directly on the Ethereum blockchain. This eliminates the storage issues faced by previous projects like CryptoPunks.
Each of the 512 pieces in the Autoglyph collection is unique and free of royalties, making them the purest form of generative art in the blockchain world. This particular set is one of only seven complete sets and one of three sets curated and minted by Matt Hall and John Watkinson of Larva Labs. The collection acquired was part of the prestigious “Old School Collection.”
This purchase marks a significant milestone in the history of Autoglyphs, which have generated over $50 million in secondary sales and have been showcased at renowned venues such as Centre Pompidou and Sotheby’s.
