Swarovski files trademark request for potential assets in the metaverse

Swarovski is exploring the possibility of entering the metaverse through recent trademark applications filed on May 30 for a variety of products.
These applications encompass a wide range of items, from cosmetics to NFT verified media, indicating the brand’s interest in establishing a presence in the virtual world.
In a potential expansion into new territories, Swarovski, the renowned Austrian company specializing in crystals and gemstones, has filed a trademark application on May 30.
The news was first shared by Michael Kondouis, a trademark attorney, who posted details of the filings on Twitter.
Swarovski is seeking protection for IC003, covering non-medicated cosmetics, and IC009, which includes virtual reality glasses and downloadable digital files authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
This entails sound and video recordings of fashion shows, videos, and memes verified by NFTs.
The application also includes downloadable virtual goods like image files of precious stones, jewelry, watches, eyewear, fashion accessories, clothing, footwear, headwear, and handbags.
Additionally, under IC014, the company is applying for precious metals, jewelry, stones, and timekeeping instruments.
While the trademark application does not confirm the launch of an NFT line, it suggests that the company is considering this possibility in the future.
This development coincides with Swarovski’s revamp, as reported by Business of Fashion, highlighting collaborations with Steven Meisel and Pay McGrath to enhance profitability.
The news comes shortly after Kellogg’s, the American cereal company, filed 12 trademarks for its own brands.
