Nanjing City in China has recently launched the China Blockchain Technology and Application Innovation Platform in order to establish the China metaverse technology and application innovation platform.
The foundation for metaverse research and development
Under the leadership of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST), a newly formed state-backed organization in China has revealed the introduction of a platform dedicated to advancing metaverse research and development.
Comprised of founding members from various academic institutions and blockchain-related companies in mainland China, this platform aims to drive progress in metaverse technology nationwide.
Filled with hope and excitement, the district’s representative looks forward to collaborating with different stakeholders to embrace the upcoming “explosion” of the metaverse and reach significant milestones, demonstrating confidence that the district is well-prepared for this technological wave.
In addition, the former vice minister of science and technology, Wu Zhong-ze, highlights the significance of integrating metaverse applications into fields such as education, commerce, healthcare, and entertainment, while also advocating for the establishment of industry standards.
A shift in attitude towards cryptocurrencies
As a prominent city in mainland China, Nanjing’s entry into the race to become a key player in the country’s multi-dimensional development is solidified by its metaverse strategy introduced earlier this year, aiming to generate annual revenue exceeding 135 billion yuan ($19.13 billion) by 2025.
Following the lead of Shanghai, which recently unveiled a wide range of 20 metaverse use cases, Nanjing’s move showcases its commitment to embracing innovative applications across sectors like virtual healthcare diagnostics and digital representations of Shanghai’s iconic architectural landmarks.
The adoption of metaverse strategies and initiatives by cities like Nanjing and Shanghai underscores China’s acknowledgment of the potential of this emerging technology, a departure from the Chinese mainland’s strict stance on digital assets.
Despite the long-standing anti-crypto position, with crypto being banned in September 2021 and expected to continue in the future, the announcement of the metaverse platform in Nanjing, combined with China Central Television station broadcasting crypto information, could mark a turning point.
