Sotheby’s has revealed plans to auction off the original manuscript of Neil Stephenson’s groundbreaking novel, Snow Crash, which introduced the term “metaverse” to the world. This auction is part of a unique series named Infocalypse, featuring a total of six physical and six digital items that will be sold as NFTs on February 27th.
Sotheby’s, a renowned broker of art, jewelry, and collectibles, will be showcasing the original version of Snow Crash, where the concept of the metaverse was first introduced over three decades ago.
As shared in a tweet by Sotheby’s, the auction forms a part of the Infocalypse series – a collection of digital art pieces created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Snow Crash. The auction event is scheduled to kick off on the 27th of February.
The auction house anticipates that the manuscript will fetch a price ranging between $100,000 to $200,000. Additionally, Sotheby’s will also be auctioning NFT images related to Dioxin Posse, a graphic novel that preceded Snow Crash. Other items up for auction include the original cover art for the 1993 mass-market paperback edition of Snow Crash, a replica of the sword wielded by the protagonist in the story, and more.
Neil Stephenson’s Snow Crash novel has already achieved immense success, selling over a million copies in North America alone.
