Ubisoft, known for blockbuster games like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, has entered a significant partnership with the XPLA network, taking on the role of a node validator. The collaboration, announced via XPLA’s Medium page, underscores Ubisoft’s proactive stance on blockchain technology through its Strategic Innovation Lab, aiming to merge gaming with blockchain innovation.

By joining the XPLA ecosystem, Ubisoft plans to utilize its deep game development expertise to ensure secure and efficient validation of transactions and data within the network. This move is expected to enrich XPLA, recognized for its ambition to become a premier content hub focusing on digital media and gaming.

XPLA, powered by the Tendermint blockchain engine and featuring a Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus, hosts popular crypto games like Summoners War and The Walking Dead.

Ubisoft’s involvement as a validator is poised to enhance network performance, security, and transparency. This collaboration, alongside other notable validators and developers such as Animoca Brands, Google Cloud, and Com2uS, is set to bolster XPLA’s ecosystem.

Beyond validation, Ubisoft will contribute to governance proposals, underscoring its commitment to shaping the network’s future. Paul Kim, lead of the XPLA team, expressed enthusiasm about Ubisoft’s participation, foreseeing a future where this collaboration fosters a transparent and reliable web3 ecosystem appealing to global players.

Ubisoft embarked on its blockchain journey in 2018, exploring blockchain games and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with strategic investments and partnerships. In October 2023, Ubisoft expanded its blockchain footprint by joining the Cronos network as a validator, reinforcing its dedication to advancing NFT gaming.

The company has pioneered the integration of NFTs into major titles like “Ghost Recon: Breakpoint,” introducing in-game NFT items. A partnership with Immutable in November 2023 further signaled Ubisoft’s commitment to innovative gaming experiences and digital ownership for players.

Ubisoft continues to actively participate as validators on networks such as Tezos and Hedera, positioning itself at the forefront of the convergence between gaming and blockchain technology.
