On September 26, 2024, the World Maritime Day will be celebrated, coinciding with the International Maritime Organization’s World Maritime Day Parallel Event in Spain from October 20-22, 2024. Additionally, art exhibitions will take place in the United States as part of Climate Week NYC. This year’s observance of World Maritime Day commemorates the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the 1974 SOLAS Convention, a pivotal treaty by the IMO focused on maritime safety, with the theme “Navigating the Future: Safety First!”
This year’s theme closely aligns with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly several of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include SDG 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and clean energy research and technology; SDG 8, which promotes sustainable economic growth; SDG 9, which focuses on building resilient infrastructure and sustainable industrialization to foster innovation; SDG 13, which addresses climate change and its impacts; and SDG 14, which emphasizes the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources. IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim highlighted the significance of this theme.
Usyncro, a sustainable online platform based in Spain, is revolutionizing international trade and transportation documentation by ensuring transparency, security, and carbon traceability through blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. The “Digital Logistics Corridor” recently received “The Supply Chain Innovation” award from the United Nations Development Program. By leveraging AI and blockchain, Usyncro enhances carbon footprint traceability, as outlined in their Investor Deck.
The platform enhances efficiency by reducing shipment-related costs and guarantees the integrity and traceability of documents, thereby minimizing the chances of fraud and errors. It also facilitates compliance with international customs and tax regulations, which can be a significant hurdle for global trade businesses, ultimately lowering the risk of compliance penalties. This positions Usyncro as a key player in fostering sustainability within global logistics. Cristina Martin, the CEO and co-founder of Usyncro, described the platform as “a B2B & B2G multimodal, carbon-neutral, interoperable, and dynamic SaaS platform that streamlines global logistics by utilizing artificial intelligence and blockchain as a service. While we are currently focused on Europe and Latin America, we aim to expand into the USA.”
Usyncro has officially launched its operations in Latin America following a partnership with ALACAT, which represents national associations from 16 countries of freight forwarders and international logistics operators across Latin America and the Caribbean. This alliance aims to promote digital corridors between Europe and Latin America and has been further solidified through an interoperability agreement between Usyncro and CargoX, both leaders in blockchain solutions for electronic management of commercial documents within the supply chain. Cristina Martin elaborated:
“This sustainable partnership between Usyncro and CargoX utilizes blockchain technology for logistics and document management, significantly simplifying the complexities of international trade. It streamlines processes, lowers barriers for entering new markets, supports regulatory compliance, and improves global trade management. This collaboration not only marks progress in the digitalization of international trade but also unlocks numerous opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs to innovate and thrive in the global marketplace. It stands as a testament to the future of international commerce, driven by blockchain technology that enhances efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.”
