Former President Trump is seeking to gain support from the crypto community as the 2024 U.S. election approaches. He is reportedly in talks to speak at the Bitcoin 2024 convention, which is scheduled to be held in Nashville, Tennessee from July 25th to 27th, 2024, according to Axios. The news was reported on Monday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The Bitcoin 2024 event, organized by Bitcoin Magazine, is considered the biggest Bitcoin event of the year and coincides with the end of the Republican National Convention. It is worth noting that the announcement of El Salvador’s plan to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender was made at the Bitcoin 2020 event in Miami.
Trump’s potential appearance at the Bitcoin event could provide him with an opportunity to make a significant statement about his stance on Bitcoin. The crypto industry has increasingly perceived Trump as being crypto-friendly, especially when compared to President Biden’s approach. Prior to Trump’s emergence as a supporter of crypto, the current administration was seen as unfavorable to the industry.
Earlier this month, Trump met with leading Bitcoin miners in the U.S. and expressed his belief that all remaining Bitcoin should be mined in the country. During a recent rally, he stated his intention to put an end to Biden’s “war on crypto” and emphasized the importance of ensuring that the future of crypto and Bitcoin is made in America.
Trump’s favorable view of crypto has endeared him to the industry, resulting in on-chain donations to his campaign. The exact amount donated in crypto is not yet available, although Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, founders of the Gemini crypto exchange, recently donated $2 million. Prior to their contribution, Trump’s campaign had received approximately $60,000 in on-chain crypto donations, according to data from Breadcrumbs. The total on-chain donations currently stand at around $1,749,200, but with off-chain contributions made through exchanges expected to be added soon, the final figure could be higher.
