Theta Labs and the University of Oregon’s Distopia Laboratory have announced a long-term partnership in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) research. The collaboration, led by Distopia’s Assistant Professor Suyash Gupta, will utilize Theta Labs’ EdgeCloud platform, which is a hybrid cloud computing solution for AI, video, rendering, and gaming.
Theta Labs first unveiled EdgeCloud in February, with the platform going live in May. The partnership with the University of Oregon will see the integration of Theta Network’s EdgeCloud into the university’s AI model training. The University of Oregon is renowned for its research in distributed systems, blockchain, and federated learning, making it an ideal partner for the collaboration.
Theta EdgeCloud’s technology has broad applications across various industries, including healthcare, media, finance, and bioinformatics. By partnering with the University of Oregon, Theta Network aims to expand the use of decentralized AI technology in the academic sector.
This collaboration between Theta Labs and the University of Oregon highlights the increasing adoption of decentralized cloud infrastructure in academic research. Furthermore, the potential for funding through cryptocurrencies provides a significant incentive for ambitious academic projects. By partnering with projects like Theta Network, academic institutions can compete with well-funded commercial AI labs while pursuing advanced research with fewer budgetary constraints.
Theta Labs has already gained traction in South Korea through partnerships with four out of the country’s top five universities. This further demonstrates the growing recognition and adoption of Theta EdgeCloud’s capabilities in the academic community.
In a separate development, Seoul Women’s University has also chosen to leverage Theta EdgeCloud to power its AI research with DePIN, further solidifying the platform’s presence in the academic field.
